Weather

Not being one of those people who love the heat, I was loving the weather today. Our little mountains that we view out the back of our house actually had snow on them. (Not turning on the furnace, though.)

Water, Water

Having no water at all in the house can be tricky - thank goodness it was only for a few hours.

But...having a couple of brand new water heaters makes for a much better shower! Many thanks to our great plumber!

Camilla Kimball

Julie Beck, the other night, said she remembers what Sister Kimball said: that one should never stifle a generous impulse.

A great philosophy, and one I shall endeavor to implement.

What a Woman Wants

Started the day going to the "What A Woman Wants" show - an expo hall filled with vendors catering to women and their quest for the best in life (i.e. vanity: jewelry, facials, cosmetics, teeth whitening, tattooed eye-liner, shoes, sparkly jeans, etc.).

Ended the day attending the General Women's meeting where I found (in my opinion) what a woman really wants through the Gospel principles taught there: a knowledge and testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ and of the working of His Atonement in our lives, the conviction that we are loved daughters of our Heavenly Father, that we have a purpose and a place in this life, that we matter, and that our service of one another is not only an errand of our Heavenly Father, but also one of His tender mercies, that charity never fails.

So glad that I ended the day in the more important place.

Height

Went to the dr. the other day. I'm still 5 ' 1 & 1/2" tall. I guess at my age it's too much to hope that I'll get any taller.

YAY!!

My computer is back and up and running. The cable tv problem was found and repaired. And both of those at no cost! Good things still happen.

Now, to get the water heater(s) taken care of.

Nashi's / electronic

Nashi pears from the neighbor's trees are truly one of life's best offerings.

Electronic things that don't work properly: one of life's biggest frustrations. They're just supposed to work!!!

Stuff Happens

Is it true that things go wrong in threes? If it's more than three, are you ahead?

Wings

I've become quite discouraged at the size of my "wings" (those long upper arm flesh flaps that hang down and down and down.)

Getting so I'm afraid to wave very hard, I just might "take off" and who knows where I'd land. (Either that or I'd end up slapping my own face.)

Brad Paisley / Dierks Bentley

Wow! What a fun night. Actually the day started out with a bang and went from there. Up at 4:30 to take some friends to the airport. Stopped downtown at the Farmer's Market on the way home and ate, and bought and walked (and tripped over dogs everywhere!)

Went to a (stupid) movie, tried to take a nap, ate at Bonsai Teppenyaki (still full) and then headed out to the Usana Amphitheater. Understand that 14,000 seats on the grass were sold out. What a fabulous concert. It drizzled on us, nobody seemed to mind. And it only took 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot at the end.

Looking forward to a quieter (but most likely less fun) week. I need some sleep.

Anniversary

Happy 39 Anniversary, My Love. Thanks for finding me. Please, don't ever leave without me. Kisses.

Friday Night at The Symphony

Cirque De Symphony with Jerry Steichen was simply fabulous. Steichen is a breath of fresh air bringing enthusiasm and energy to our symphony experience. Loved it!

A Couple of Miscellaneous Thoughts

Tis the season for those nasty little gnats that fly around on the trail. I fear I swallowed a couple. Fiber?

Vacuuming the Draper Temple is so much, well, more than vacuuming my home.

Happy anniversary to our son and daughter-in-law. Thanks for the frabjous grandchilluns.

I like friday mornings (and friday afternoons, and friday evenings.)

Thursday thought

"I'm a bit past fifty, and I'm behaving like a fourteen-year-old. Actually, it's one of the things I like most about being a woman--the ability to carry all my previous ages around with me and unpack them at the appropriate times. I also like how quickly women can bond with each other."

I read this bit today in a book and loved the image it brought to my mind. Would that I never get too old for fun.

Leaves

Our backyard has a scattering of leaves that have begun to drift down from the cottonwoods.

We noticed last night that the mountainsides have begun to show some color.

Fall has to be one of my all time favorite times of the year.

The Taffetas

Had a fun evening at BYU at a production of The Taffetas. Songs from the 50's - we surprised ourselves with how many of them we know.

It's been a long time since we attended something like this that began with prayer. It was quite refreshing.

Kindness

Listened to a few minutes of "Music and The Spoken Word" The Hubby recorded yesterday while we were at church. Decided I really need to be a much much kinder person.

Great Sunday

Wonderful day at Church today. The Hubby gave a great lesson in Sunday School, great talks in Sacrament Meeting and a wonderful R. S. lesson. Such a pleasure to be able to be there again with My Love.

Even the weather was fun: cloudy, a sprinkle or two, a bit windy, and not hot. Fall is my very favorite time of the year.

Next Week

This coming week will be a busy one: We have tickets to a play at BYU, I have quilt group, lunch out with a couple friends, then we're cleaning the Temple one night, symphony tickets, taking our son's in-laws to the airport, and tickets to Brad Paisley. The Hubby says he's really looking forward to it, thinks it will be like a vacation week.

I'm already tired thinking about it. Maybe I'll take a nap.

Food

What a week!

Sunday: Yummy dinner of BLT's with family.

Tuesday: lunch with a friend.

Thursday: breakfast with a couple of friends to celebrate my (now past) birthday.

Friday: lunch with a friend.

Friday: Dinner with another couple that we enjoy.

It seems weird that I spend so much time focused on food. But when you have such fun with it, why not? (Then why, oh, why does it make me fat?!?)

computer

I sure miss my great computer. Hope it gets fixed, soon.

Strange Day

Yesterday was so weird. Didn't get a lot accomplished. The computer is finally in the shop for repairs, perhaps now I won't be so frustrated. Went to a viewing of a friend whose husband passed away.

But: The Hubby surprised me with tickets to the Brad Paisley / Dierks Bentley concert the evening of our anniversary. Wow!

Life

The birthday weekend is over and today it was back to real life. But how can you complain when you get to go to lunch with a friend, get the laundry done, groceries bought and put away and still have time to get in a bit of reading?

MPH

Totally loved the new computer for my bike: my fastest speed today (downhill) was 20 mph. We did a 13.6 mile ride. Jamba Juice breakfast in the middle of the ride boosted our comfort level. Didn't even mind the helmet.

Birthdays

Wow - who'd have thought someone my age could have such a fun birthday. People have been kind, generous, and thoughtful.

My favorite thing: Having The Hubby back with me at church. Just delightful.

Flowers dotting the house can sure brighten things.

Ooph!

Birthday dinner celebration at "The Roof". Buffet's are just plain bad news for the old stomach! And at $36 a pop, you somehow feel like you must get every penny's worth.

Won't be getting much sleep tonight: too full.

I'm Alive and Well

I think it was the best way to end the day: a visit from all of the kids who live close enough to come. (And those who don't, we missed you!!)

I enjoyed sharing a birthday celebration with our son's father-in-law.

It's like that new Kenny Chesney song: "I'm Alive, and Well."

Stunning

Lately my morning walks / rides have provided the focal point for excitement in my days. (The other day a lady screamed at me when I was trying to get away from her unleashed dog and mentioned to her it was supposed to be leashed. Sheesh!)

So this morning I'm riding along, rounded a bend and there standing in profile in the center of the trail ahead was the most beautiful red fox! I always watch for him there, his den is right nearby. As mouselike as I could, I rolled to a stop so as to not disturb him, but he saw me anyway and made his graceful dash home. I loved it!

FHE

Having Family Home Evening on Wednesday (because of work schedules) makes me think tomorrow is Tuesday. (It's really Thursday, isn't it?)

Dogs

I think people should keep their dogs on a leash when using the Draper Trail system.
