Still Snowing

Snow-covered trees are pretty
• It felt like it took forever on Monday to dig out from the snow, that first wave was densely wet and heavy.  Tuesday morning's snow was lighter and fluffier, almost fun to be out in, though there was still an accumulation of a couple inches.  Then we had a day or two to just rest those shovel-muscles.  When I got up this morning there was a bare skiff of snow on the ground but by 8 a.m. it was coming down again in earnest and hasn't let up since.  The Husband had to use the shovel to break his way in the snow for his mail-retrieving excursion.

And it's been cold.  Wednesday morning when I got out of bed it was 3 degrees outside.  That means my morning walks have been on the treadmill (such a luxury but w-a-y less fun than being out on the trails).  I'm too scared of slipping and breaking some bone or other.

But this morning's temp was 24 and that felt almost balmy since the wind has died down and things are calmer.  I love the way the snow dampens all the noise.  It feels hushed and quieter.

Absolutely fabulous!
• The doorbell rang last night.  Cute little 11 year old from next wanting to borrow a cheese grater, they needed it for the zesting of the lime for the key lime pie she and her Mom were making. She's a fun girl. Shortly afterward, the doorbell rang with the return of the grater (and a thank you in the form of a couple pieces of chocolate).  I like having these interactions with neighbors.

A bit later the we answered the ring of the doorbell again to the same young lady bearing - Yup! - two pieces of key lime pie.  I was hesitant to accept it, it's a full quarter of the pie and they only made one and she has four younger brothers that surely would want a piece.  But she assured me that "the boys don't like pie".  Since my freshly brushed (and mint flavored) teeth wouldn't mix well with pie, I saved mine for breakfast.  And wow - that was absolutely the best key lime pie I've ever had.  Made doubly tasty for the generosity of the neighbors.

• I walked the towels I embroidered for my friend's birthday over to her house yesterday.  Had to leave them outside with a text message notifying her.  Couple hours later I received a sweet thank you text from her.  I had been second guessing my choice of gifts for her, didn't want to seem too low class (she's quite particular).  So, even if she's fudging a bit about how much she likes the towels, I'm hoping there's at least a bit of truth to what she said.

• So today's another home snow day. We're apparently making up for all those months of winter without any precipitation.  I'm grateful for the moisture.  I'm grateful for plenty to do at home to keep busy and feel productive and enjoy being the homebody that I am.  I'm grateful for good things to read, for a wonderful washing machine and dryer.  I'm grateful for food treats for breakfast.  And that the new-to-me chocolate chip cookie recipe turned out ok. (The friends and relatives we shared the cookies with said they were yummy, so happy they liked them!)  And I'm grateful for warmth and comfort.  And hope to always have some gratitude in my heart.
