Food

So, the other night we got together with friends for talking, eating, talking and more eating.  Lovely fun.  For dessert we ended up at Leatherby's - a local chain that we frequent as often as we can.  I love their ice cream, though we often get the smallest portion possible.  They're pretty over-the-top with serving sizes.  Just before we left a guy at a nearby table was served a banana split.  Yes, completely over the top.  And while I love the place, I always wonder how much of their items get thrown away.  It seems such a waste, as well as an ode to gluttony.  I dislike waste and don't like to feel like a glutton.

Will I go back?  Most definitely.  Though I'll probably stick to the smallest thing I can find - a simple dish of ice cream suits me just fine.

Yummy fresh food.
And here's last night's dinner: corn on the cob, tomatoes, simple tuna sandwich and blueberries for dessert.  (Though we did supplement dessert with a few M&M's.)  The very best part?  Minutes before eating I had walked to the back yard and yanked a couple ears of corn off the stalks & brought in a few tomatoes that I peeled and sliced.  I so love the freshness of summer food.  We're out of watermelon for the time being, but that'll be soon fixed.

And I think The Husband is going for it.  I expect that by this time next month he'll be the proud owner of the "retired" label.  He deserves some rest, some marching to his own rules/schedules/needs.  And some peace.  It'll be lovely to not have such a rigid schedule to keep.  Let's hope we can manage retirement with dignity and grace and have some fun while we're at it.

I hear the beach calling our names.

I'm grateful today for a few ears of corn still to bring in for tonight's dinner. For hope for a bit of fun in the future.  For what we hope is some good advice for our financial future.  And yes, for a beach trip.
