Surgery Completed!

So here I am, 24 hours post surgery, remaining eye.  It's interesting to me how different the two experiences (for the very same thing) have been.  Seeing the dr. this morning for the follow-up was reassuring on many levels.  Yes, the eye drops can sting (he seemed a bit surprised that the first eye never was bothered by stinging eye drops).  Yes, at this point I could even pass the vision test for my driver's license.  Which was a tad scary for me - things were blurrier than I'd expect they'd allow for safe driving.  Yes (and wow!) my eye pressure in both eyes was 12.  (Surely the instrument was functioning properly?!) And yes, sunglasses every single time I'm outside.

Coming soon to our table.
And no:  no bending, no vacuuming, nothing strenuous (more laying around which is hard when it's not my idea) no water in the eyes, no going without the hard eye cover for the next 6 nights (the tape makes my skin itch!) and no new glasses for probably another month until things settle down and stabilize.

But yay for me!  The worst part - barring unexpected complications - is over.  Now I just get to heal.

We did get a notice from the insurance company the other day.  So far this year we've spent over $1,500 on prescriptions (mostly drops) on me.  That was a tad discouraging.  Hopefully that most expensive stuff is over.

Our weather has finally decided to be summer.  By this time we've usually harvested a few tasty early tomatoes.  This year they are way behind. But it looks like we might actually get some.  The Husband has been so conscientious about keeping things watered and healthy.  I've been mostly MIA because of my inability to bend, etc. (Even my hair looks different because I haven't been able to blow it dry with my head down.  I'm such a whiner!!)

The alien glasses,-top, cuter ones below
This morning we found some "readers" at Costco and some cheap sunglasses at Target to hold me until it's time for the prescription glasses.  I haven't even sat down at the piano, I think that's going to be another puzzle to solve. The Husband was all for the sunglasses, he had to repress a chuckle each time I put on the free sunglasses from the surgical center - we call them the alien glasses because they obscure so much of my face.  I have a sorta small head to start with.

Today I'm so grateful for my vision.  As frustrating and troublesome as it currently I am so grateful for the fact that I can see this beautiful world and the smiles on the faces of loved ones.  I'm grateful for those with the education and expertise to help fix issues so I can maintain that vision.  I'm grateful for antibiotic creams to help heal the skin that was damaged initially by the eye drops and then expanded into a secondary infection.  It looks nearly healed and I'm so grateful!  I'm grateful for the seasonal fruit and veggies, for salads for dinner.  For prayers and for those to pray for and even more for those who mention they've prayed for me.  My heart is so warmed and uplifted to be the recipient of such kindness.
