Still thinking about the sacrament hymn we sang on Sunday. We don't often sing this particular arrangement - it's more often the one on the following page which has never been one of my favorites.
I don't know if it was the setting that Helen was using on the organ, if it was her gentle touch as she played, or if for some reason my heart was a teensy bit more welcoming. Whatever the reason, I was touched by the song. And am still remembering how I felt as we sang it. I welcome the continuing presence of the hymn in my mind through the week. It feels good to focus on uplifting music and words.
1. ‘Tis sweet to sing the matchless love
Of Him who left his home above
And came to earth–oh, wondrous plan–
To suffer, bleed, and die for man!
2. ‘Tis good to meet each Sabbath day
And, in his own appointed way,
Partake the emblems of his death,
And thus renew our love and faith.
3. Oh, blessed hour! communion sweet!
When children, friends, and teachers meet
And, in remembrance of his grace,
Unite in sweetest songs of praise.
4. For Jesus died on Calvary!
That all thru him might ransomed be.
Then sing hosannas to his name;
Let heav’n and earth his love proclaim.

And this is a link to the actual music. I looked and looked to find a version sung by the Tabernacle Choir but couldn't find one.
This morning it was 0 degrees at 6 a.m. We've had all our cupboard doors open (probably totally unnecessary but those pipes run through the outside walls) and doing our best to keep the powder room warm, that's the place where we've had the toilet pipes freeze a time or two. I'm totally paranoid about having a burst pipe. The consequences of that make me scared. So today I'm grateful for good furnaces and for a warm house and for non-frozen pipes. Grateful for garages for all the cars to keep them safe. And grateful for sunshine. I love it in the winter when it's cold and isn't overheating me.
Yesterday morning we were sitting at the table, looking out at the snow. I wasn't sure if it was just snow blowing off the trees and roof or if it was actually snowing. But it was blowing around in the sunshine and looked as though we were in the middle of a sparkly snowglobe. Funnest thing I've seen this week!
