When you take the surface streets and put up with all the stoplights over taking the freeway (with all those cars that zoom in and out across multiple lanes at once without signaling - driving like a maniac).
When your morning walks in the winter are pretty much dictated by the weather. Black ice that's invisible in the dark means you are inside on the treadmill instead.
When every inch of your skin requires moisturizing. When bandages either leave angry red marks from the adhesive or they take off layers of skin.
When dinners out with friends are more often around the five o'clock hour instead of the more fashionable 6 or 7 o'clock hours. Sleep is easier the earlier you eat. 😏
When you have the luxury of attending a daytime movie on cheap Tuesdays instead of joining the crowds at night.
When personal safety is more of a priority than being a daredevil. That was fun when younger but now all the ramifications and possible consequences have you taking the more careful path.
When you don't really care that you're not dressed your nicest to go out. Wherever you go.
When you feel invisible, irrelevant, incompetent and just plain dumb next to all the more tech savvy young'uns.
Today I'm grateful that I've managed to make it to "old". And hope to be older still. (I haven't had enough fun yet.) Grateful that the MRI is over, especially that contrast dye injection - I swear they were hitting shoulder bone. Grateful that I've only a few days left until the dr. tells me what the results of that MRI are. Grateful for kind neighbors who bring me fresh flowers to say "thinking of you on your MRI day, we know that it was hard". And yes, still grateful for the rain and snow. I'll take that over our typical January air inversions any time. (Don't even have as much of a hankering to get away this January as I usually do because the air is so good. This morning's walk in the cool with a view of the moon was just lovely.)
