A First

So, yesterday we had our dreaded dental checkups.  We had already postponed them at once.  And I kept reading articles that said that the dentist is probably the last place we should go right now until the dangvirus abates.  But I had that chipped crown.  And felt like we needed to go.  So, apprehensively we went.  The hygienist wasn't my favorite.  My jaw still aches.  And she wasn't very gentle.  With her words or her hands.  But the end result was good.  This silly chipped crown only had to have a 15 second smoothing of the sharp point and I was good to go.  No cavities, no other work needed.  Whew - hard to describe my relief.  The Husband has to have a bit of repair work, and isn't awfully anxious to either have it done nor spend the $$.  But we'll figure it out. (Our social security only goes so far.)

Picked today.
Received a text when sitting in the dentist's waiting room.  Would I be available to play the organ this Sunday at our Ward's turn for the church building.  And if so, would I please let the bishop know the hymns.  I'm always happy to help.  And always happy that there's something I can do to help.  Once in a while (doesn't really have to happen very often) it would be nice to hear from someone just because they want to connect, not because they need something.

Love this fresh food.
And the first?  Our very first cantaloupe!!  We've had summer veggie gardens off and on for decades. Tried growing melons lots of times.  With zero success.  This year?  We brought in two this morning, and the vines are loaded, there's probably another 8 - 10 just waiting to ripen and another handful of babies that might not make it before the growing season ends. Could hardly wait for lunch to cut it open and try it out.  And wow, yummers!!!  We're still bringing in tomatoes, though the plants have slowed quite a bit.  I've given away so many cucumbers (another thing we've never grown before and have been somewhat amazed at how prolific the plant has been) I've begun to feel like I'm begging people to take them.  Seems like everyone is growing them this year so it's been hard to find someone that doesn't have their own.  Our every lunch and dinner has tomatoes and cucumbers as the centerpiece.  And while I love them, I'm almost ready for a small taste of something different.

So grateful for our garden and being able to share some of the earth's abundant and luscious produce.  I'm also grateful today for Costco's rotisserie chicken.  We'll get at least 4 meals from that $5 purchase (and 4 meals that I don't have to think very hard about).
