I love annuals - the flowers. I dislike spending money on them. This year we bought our tomato and melon starts at a new-to-us (though highly recommended) nursery. And bought some mums for the front garden. We've had geraniums there for years, but the last few years it felt like we needed a change.
We'd planted a couple columbine (didn't make it - water didn't reach them and we've already re-done the sprinklers there) and some cosmos. Just for a quick pop of color. The nursery cosmos didn't survive this year. (I've felt like the dangvirus has permeated the very air and discouraged even some of the plants. 😒)
So I bought a couple $2 packets of cosmos seeds in the hopes of flowers. That was in April / May. Supposed to bloom in 50 days or so. Well, it's been roughly six months (like 180 days?). And we're just continually shaking our heads. We have only seen one bloom (that still hasn't bloomed) but those airy, leafy stems just keep growing. The packet said 1-4 feet high. The tallest stem there - the one by the porch pillar in the sunshine - is taller than The Husband, so well over 6 feet tall. And still: no flowers.
But the mums are looking pretty and within a week or so will probably be really eye-catching in the bright yellow. I so love flowers!
There's a house along one of our walking routes that has the prettiest flowers along the front. I have no idea what they are, wish I could ask someone. I'd love to have some.
I had to get a new phone a couple weeks ago. The new phone's pictures are in a different format. Penzu (where I'm putting most of my thoughts these days) doesn't accept the format. So all of my pictures will be here, I guess. Not sure I'm a fan of change. There's no rhyme or reason for the way things work (actually don't work would be more accurate). It's no wonder I'm mostly abandoning Blogspot. Any strangeness in the way this looks is the fault of Google. Sigh....
