So, when we had that issue with the battery on The Husband's Charger (remember, the replacement took over 4 hours, most of which the car and battery were just sitting there, likely still would be if we hadn't started to pressure them a tad) everything seemed ok except for the cruise control. The Husband uses his cruise control a lot. (I remember just before I traded in the Prius I had to look up the dashboard symbol in my car manual because I didn't recognize it. That's how often I use the cruise control - like maybe, never!!)
We had an appt. to take the car in to have the cruise fixed on Monday, but with our huge snowstorm, The Husband rescheduled for yesterday.
Took the car in and crossed our fingers. I feared it would be super pricey. Waited all day long for a call. Nothing. Finally, late afternoon we got word that a part was needed, had to come from Denver, should arrive Friday (today) morning, so we left the car overnight and I've driven us everywhere we had to go. (The more I drive our little Subaru, the more I like it!)
First thing this morning, the call came. The part was coming on a truck from Denver. The truck was stuck, because the freeway was closed (we never got clarity on whether the truck was involved in the crash that shut down the freeway or not, in any event, the truck can't make it here today) and the part would likely not arrive until Monday by around 1:00 p.m.
So, we ran over and picked up the car, made an appointment to take it back in on Tuesday to replace the part.
Of course, on the drive home, The Husband just had to try out the cruise control. And yes, you guessed it. The cruise control works.
So on the phone to the dealer, he offers to pay at least a portion of the fee / part. They said, no, but we'll hold onto the part for 30 days just in case it malfunctions again. (Which I think they're figuring will happen.)
And really, if I read something like this in a book or saw it on a tv show, I'd totally scoff and say: that'd never happen. Never in a million years. But, yup, it happened to us.
Now, I'm kind of holding my breath to see what weirdness is going to happen next.
Still, I'm grateful the car is working properly again, and that we didn't have to fork out all those hundreds of dollars (at least not yet) for the repair. I'm grateful we have a couple of really nice cars to traipse all over in.
