We had a nice weekend, got to go spend it with our daughter and son-in-law. They treated us well, much better than we deserve and it was lovely to have them to ourselves. We love all our kids so much and thoroughly enjoy when we can all get together. But some of my favorite times are when we get them one-on-one.
Now that they're half as far (and we discovered that the worst part of the previous drive was the last half, so now we get to drive the easier, quicker half of the drive- yay!!) it's so fabulous. We've been trying to get out there for a while but it hasn't worked out. Our younger daughter went out once (and that pleases me no end, my girls are good for each other!) and yup, I was a tad envious that she got to go. But we've been there now and I can have a good sense of where they are and what things look like.
They showed us their schools, and the library. The library will ever be one of my favorite places and the outside of this one was charming. The mural spanning the length of the building just tickled my fancy, and I loved the Einstein quote. We went to church with them, saw a whole bunch of deer when walking the dogs, The Husband helped gather eggs and we continually marveled at their view of the distant mountains. Sadly, I didn't manage to get a picture of the view. And we talked. I know I've always talked w-a-y too much, but I think I outdid myself on this trip. Even so, it was so fun.And coming home was good. I do love a getaway. I do. But coming home brings me such peace. Home is truly where my heart is happiest. Even when I'm fretful and anxious to do something different. I love it here.
A huge blessing is having our daughter and grandson take care of things while we're away. I never worry that things will go awry around the house, they are caring and responsible. So grateful for the both of them. And grateful that they don't seem to mind when we go.
We've been busy doing laundry and vacuuming and getting the John Deere ready to mow (rather than remove snow). The husband came to the door with his bucket of pine cones (he can't abide mowing over them, so he always picks them up and throws them away first) and had me stand by to see the little snake he found in the yard. I have no idea what kind of snake it is except it's the kind that's best kept far away. They give me the shudders. So grateful today for our daughters. They have turned into delightful adults. Grateful for our home. It does need attention and maintenance, it's aging just like we are. But we love it. Grateful for hope that things will work out so that our social security income won't be interrupted. And grateful for prayer. My heart is continually sending prayers heavenward for so many of our loved ones.
