It's been crazy around here. Yes, I know I often say it's crazy, but this week has felt crazier than usual. But I'm so pleased about a couple things.
The radishes we're experimenting with this year have already sprouted in the garden. Haven't eaten a radish in years, but maybe this year will change that. So far everything else we've planted is doing well in spite of a couple colder-than-we-hoped nights.Every year with our garden is an experiment. The Husband wanted to complete a project he had in mind. He wanted to use some leftover vinyl (from when he built the grow-boxes for the veggies) and even more, wanted to try his hand at growing some strawberries. Sketching and figuring and procuring the supplies kept him busy for a bit. This week was the time to actually do it. He cut and glued the vinyl to just the right configuration. (And we swept a lot of vinyl shavings from the shop!)
And viola! The strawberries are planted. And watered and it looks just lovely. I am so pleased with how it turned out and I know he feels some gratification. I love it when a plan comes together. 😊
Yesterday was a tiny kerfuffle. Yet again we heard that our recent dental check-up/cleaning was denied. They said we didn't have coverage. My stomach started twisting. Phoned our agent (that was one of our more wise decisions, to find a good agent) who promptly got us on the phone with the insurance company. After a somewhat lengthy call it seems as though things will be resolved. But the thing I felt so pleased about was our agent needing some information from our cards and it seemed easiest to take a picture and send it to him. Which I did - while still on the phone call with our agent. I knew there had to be a way to do it and I just decided I was going to forge ahead. Now, I realize that other people would think that is child's play - and it probably is. But I had never ever done it before and I managed to figure it out without any input from the brighter, more intelligent souls around me. Yay for me.
We've a cold front coming in tonight which means we're getting a fairly stiff wind through our area. Everywhere we've driven has had us going through petal-storms as all the flowering trees are losing their blossoms in the wind. I love how it looks but am a bit sad to see the trees de-flowered. It feels like we've had a longer-than-usual spring around here, our little valley has been stunning with all the flowers on the trees, bushes and ground. I'm so grateful it lasted as long as it did. Though I suspect the summer is going to be brutal, both in heat and dryness and wildfires.
AND: I managed to find a gift for The Husband. Another yay for me!! It's an early Birthday/Father's Day combined gift but I'm hoping it'll be something he's pleased with for quite some time: stuff for keeping the lawn taken care of. If we're not going to have the mowers come this year (and we're not - he wants to do it himself, and since he isn't pressured with work and enjoys being outdoors and feeling productive we're going to give it a go), and he'll keep his promise about avoiding the heat and being careful in the sun, I want him to have good equipment to work with. Now he does. We'll see how he likes it.
It feels like I haven't read nearly as much as I like to, or used to. I haven't even had the energy to crochet in the evening. It's been too hot the last couple days (and I refuse to turn on the air conditioning for a bit longer). But it's been a decent week, feels like we accomplished several things, more than I've mentioned here. The strawberry planter was kind of a bigger project and I tried to be there to help out as much as I could. I went for a walk one morning with a friend and that same day helped another friend in her yard, preparing for her daughter's wedding reception next month. And I visited with one of the sisters I'm assigned to.
We're getting excited about the beach. The final payment for the week's rent is due soon. Then we are fully committed. I've checked on the COVID-19 cases / status in that county and things do look like they're improving. So: so far, so good. I'm so grateful that we seized this opportunity.
