Finally Feels Like Fall

Got up for our morning walk - daylight saving time is sure an annoyance - and it was 25 degrees outside.  Our walks these days are much, much slower and shorter.  But at least we're out for the sunrise and the beauty.  This morning the clouds were so very beautiful.  I simply had to put this one picture on here.  And they say a picture is worth a thousand words?  Likely true.  But a picture is nothing like seeing the real thing with your own eyes.  It was a lovely morning for a walk and I was so grateful to be able to go. Though, seriously, are the trees ever going to lose their leaves?  Some have, for sure, but most of ours have barely begun to dot the grass. We'll probably be raking in December.  😁

Crack right through the sole.
So, the week was different without the dratted boot. I walked out of the dr.'s office Monday morning feeling like I was 25 pounds lighter - no kidding - both physically and emotionally. It's been interesting to figure out which shoes work best, where to put the metatarsal pads and how long to leave the foot tape on before it needs changing.  I think I'm getting there, but it's been slow.  I've been grateful for my ancient Sanita shoes.  They are firm, kind of like the boot, without the weight.  At the storehouse on Saturday I discovered this crack in the sole.  One of several - though this was the largest. On the way home we stopped at a couple places that sell Danskos (the "sister" company) and of course, everyone was out of my size in my preferred style/color.  After quite some time on the internet I finally decided to just wear the open back ones I have (though I'm not very fond of them) until I can figure out what to do.  The second part of the shoe issue is my walki
Yay for new shoes.

ng shoes.  I'm a long-time fan of Altras. But they are more minimalist kind of shoes, hardly any cushioning.  Since my morning walks are so very important to me, I need to be able to comfortably walk without further damage to my small ligament tears (the ones at the toe joints - why does everyone automatically assume it's plantar fasciitis?) The Altras (at least the ones I've worn) just don't have the cushion or rigidity that is needed.

So off we went this morning to Scheel's.  Again.  Monday morning is a really good time to go - compared to Saturday afternoon.  Talked to a guy who certainly does know his shoes.  He didn't mind bringing out several different shoes for me to try.  The ones I really liked only came in a bright mint green.  Sorry.  Nope.  I ended up with a pair of Hokas.  Thank heavens they were on sale.  I was happy to part with my birthday gift card to help pay for the shoes.  They aren't quite the "aahh" feeling that I have with the mint green ones, but they're definitely an improvement over the ones I'm wearing.   The Husband would have bought both pairs if I'd let him.  But the color was the deal breaker.  I totally love the color, just not on my shoes.

Halloween last week was better around here than last year. I've always been vocal of my personal dislike for the holiday.  We skipped the ward Trunk-or-Treat and didn't miss it at all.  Our lights were off and we had only two doorbell rings and they were both early on before the seemingly universal signal: lights off means no treats.

I enjoyed the comment yesterday at church:  the sun will still rise on Wednesday morning.  I appreciated his perspective on the always contentious political arena / election season.  Our presidential election will happen, and as hateful as it has been on all sides (IMO) life will go on.  Things will work out as our Creator intended.

I'm grateful today for a new pair of shoes, and especially that I hadn't spent my gift card (meant for socks) so I could use it toward the shoes.  So very grateful to be able to get back to morning walks, however slow and short they seem.  Things will improve.  I'm grateful for hope that perhaps I'll manage to heal enough to not require surgery.
